The Black Hills State University Exercise Science Program and the Black Hills Exercise and Sport Testing Lab will host the “Keep Building Stronger Performance Testing” event July 6 -10 at the Donald E. Young Center on the BHSU campus.
The event will provide community members with access to fitness and health assessments designed to improve wellness, performance, and safety.
Testing sessions will run daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature a variety of evidence-based assessments, including:
- VO₂ Max Testing – measures cardiovascular fitness and oxygen utilization
- Body Composition (BodPod) – analyzes body fat percentage, muscle mass, and fat mass
- Fall Risk Screening – evaluates balance, mobility, and fall-risk factors
- Blood Lactate Threshold Testing – identifies optimal heart-rate training zones and endurance markers
The event is open to individuals of all fitness levels, from recreational exercisers and outdoor enthusiasts to aging adults seeking valuable insight into their health and mobility.
In addition to supporting community wellness, the event will provide BHSU Exercise Science students with valuable experiential learning opportunities.
“This event is a tremendous opportunity for our students to gain hands-on experience using exercise testing equipment and working directly with community members in a real-world setting,” said Craig Triplett, professor of exercise science at BHSU. “At the same time, it allows participants to learn more about their health, fitness, and physical performance in a supportive environment that can help them stay active safely and confidently.”
Event participants will also have opportunities to connect with exercise science faculty and students, access educational resources, and enter prize giveaways throughout the week.
Registration for community assessments are now open and spots are limited. You can register for the event at BHSU.edu/ExerciseScienceLab.
