BHSU Theatre Department to Perform “A Year with Frog and Toad”

February 24, 2026

The Black Hills State University Theatre Department is teaming up with the BHSU Music Department to present “A Year with Frog and Toad,” directed by Dr. Nancy Roberts with musical direction by Dr. Jonathon Nero. This production will replace the previously planned performance of “Fiddler on the Roof,” which was postponed due to delays in the renovation of the Woodburn Theatre, moving the musical to the fall. Performances will be held in the Black Box Theatre on the third floor of Woodburn Hall, Mar. 6, 12, and 13 at 7 p.m., and Mar. 7, 8, and 14 at 2 p.m.

Based on the Arnold Lobel children’s book, this family friendly musical follows the story of two best friends, a cheerful Frog and a curmudgeonly Toad, through the four seasons.  From hibernation to hibernation, the two enact many memorable adventures along the way.

A Year with Frog and Toad holds a special place in my heart,” Roberts said, “My children and I loved the books, and seeing the musical together when they were little made those stories even more magical. I can’t wait to work with our amazing cast and share this production with the Spearfish community.”

Tickets are $27 for adults, $20 for seniors and military, and $15 for youth (K-12) and non-BHSU students. BHSU students, faculty, staff, and children 5 and under may attend for free. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at BHSU.edu/BoxOffice.
