The economic development course “Fuel the Growth – 2025: Advancing Economic Development in Communities” is back at Black Hills State University-Rapid City for its fifth year, scheduled to take place October 6-9.
Economic development professionals and board members, Chamber of Commerce staff, community leaders and elected officials are invited to register for Fuel the Growth – 2025. The event is hosted by Black Hills State University (BHSU) and the Rushmore Region Economic Development Alliance.
Fuel the Growth earned certification from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in 2024 and now qualifies as an accredited Basic Economic Development Course, fulfilling one of the prerequisites for the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) exam.
“Fuel the Growth, now officially recognized as an IEDC-accredited Basic Economic Development Course, equips participants with the knowledge, tools, and networks essential for driving long-term economic growth in their communities. BHSU is proud to host this impactful program in South Dakota again and to support the next generation of development leaders," said Andrew G. Buks, instructor of management at BHSU.
The curriculum for Fuel the Growth includes presentations, panel discussions, and case studies covering key topics in business, organizational, and community development. Attendees will also have valuable opportunities to network with peers and industry experts.
“Fuel the Growth provided me with a solid foundation in economic development, from strategic planning to real estate reuse and finance,” said Drew Staufer, Business Prospect Manager at Elevate Rapid City and a 2024 attendee. “The course content was grounded in real-world applications and current best practices, equipping me with actionable strategies I could immediately apply in my work. It's an essential resource for professionals committed to driving sustainable, data-informed growth in their communities. Whether you have spent years in economic development or days, you will walk away with practical tools and connections applicable for the rest of your career.”
