Program Overview

A degree in Business Administration with a specialization in economics at BHSU provides the tools necessary to solve problems associated with asset valuation and investment decisions. The curriculum covers major social, political, and economic issues.

At BHSU, you will learn to think critically, analyze and solve business problems effectively, work in teams, appreciate diversity, and strategically anticipate and adapt to change. With a degree in economics, you will enter one of the most in-demand fields of study.

The Business programs at Black Hills State University are accredited by AACSB, placing them among just 5% of business schools in the world to have earned this distinction. Program Highlights

Each year, the United Nations coordinates a World Tourism Day celebration highlighting important aspects of the tourism industry. BHSU brings together students and industry leaders to celebrate the impact of tourism on our community.

The annual Accounting Fair, for accounting and professional accounting majors, is held every fall, welcoming local and regional employers to both the Spearfish and Rapid City campuses. Students network and interview with employers to secure internships and full-time positions.

Each spring semester, BHSU holds its annual career fair, open to all majors and welcoming over 60 employers to campus to meet with students seeking part-time, full-time, and internship positions.

Black Hills State University proudly hosts an IRS-certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site each spring, providing free federal income tax preparation to individuals and families in Spearfish and the surrounding communities.

Through the program, IRS-certified student volunteers — supervised by BHSU accounting faculty — prepare and electronically file personal income tax returns at no cost. Taxpayers with an annual household income of $67,000 or less generally qualify for assistance.

VITA services are offered from mid-February through early April. The program gives area residents access to accurate, no-cost tax preparation while providing BHSU accounting students meaningful, hands-on professional experience.

The Kicking Assets Accounting Club is a vibrant community dedicated to exploring the world of accounting and business! The club provides a platform for leadership opportunities and to connect with peers, professors, and industry professionals. Members can enhance their understanding of the profession through guest speakers who share their insights and experiences. Joining the Club will also provide students with information about the various accounting programs in the College of Business, and industry certifications.
