Black Hills State University will join fellow public universities across South Dakota in celebrating “605 Day: Funding Futures with Scholarships,” a statewide initiative held annually on June 5 to celebrate South Dakota and strengthen scholarship support for students.
Inspired by South Dakota’s single area code, “605 Day” unites alumni, donors, and supporters across the state and beyond in a shared commitment to expanding access to higher education. Contributions made during the campaign directly support student scholarships, helping remove financial barriers and create opportunities for current and future students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college.
“’605 Day’ is about pride in our state and belief in our students,” said Steve Meeker, vice president for University Advancement. “Every gift, no matter the size, helps open doors for students who are ready to lead, serve, and contribute to their communities. When supporters invest in scholarships, they are investing in the future of South Dakota.”
Throughout the day, the university will share student stories, highlight the impact of donor generosity, and invite supporters to participate by posting and/or sharing stories of their own. The campaign reflects a collaborative effort among South Dakota’s public universities to grow scholarship support and increase affordability for students statewide.
“We are proud to stand alongside our fellow institutions in this statewide effort,” said Meeker. “‘605 Day’ is an opportunity for our entire university community to come together and make a lasting difference.”
