The Black Hills State University Theatre Department will host an interactive murder mystery dinner fundraiser April 11 in the Jacket Legacy Room, where guests will be asked to determine who killed tyrannical billionaire Simon Starkweather in a performance of "Murder's in the Heir," directed by BHSU student Josiah Sabrowski-Johnson. Tickets are $70 per person at BHSU.edu/BoxOffice.
“This event isn’t just a show; it’s an experience. The audience becomes part of the story, which makes the single performance unique,” said student director Sabrowski-Johnson, who has also had a hand in other productions in the theatre department. “I believe this opportunity has been a real window into my future, as it is my aspiration to become a theatre instructor and director,” he added.
The performance, written by Billy St. John, follows potential heirs who each have a personal motive to inherit Starkweather’s fortune for themselves. After Starkweather’s shocking murder, his grandson Simon III and detective Mike Davis are determined to find the perpetrator.
“This audience-interactive murder mystery is going to be a blast! Not only will the audience have a wonderful three course meal, but they get to decide who the murderer is!” said Casey Hibbert, instructor of fine arts at BHSU. “Also, all the proceeds go to scholarships for the students to continue to do cool things like this.”
Appetizers will be passed around at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. and dessert will be passed out during the intermission.
“Not only is this production the start of many other student-directed shows here at BH, but it is also a fundraiser that will allow more students like me to attend this school,” said Sabrowski-Johnson.
