Black Hills State University’s College of Education earned re-accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), a nationally recognized accrediting body, for educator preparation programs. BHSU’s education programs have maintained national accreditation since 1998.
“Our faculty and staff, in collaboration with our preschool-12th grade partner districts, have worked tirelessly to make BHSU’s teacher preparation program the best in the region. This accreditation reflects our commitment to preparing exceptional educators who will positively impact classrooms across the region and beyond,” said Dr. Jarrett Moore, dean of the College of Education at BHSU.
This accreditation is valid for seven years and demonstrates that the education programs at BHSU meet CAEP’s rigorous standards, ensuring future teachers are prepared to succeed in the classroom. Educator preparation providers seeking accreditation must pass peer review of CAEP standards, which are based on two principles: that their graduates are competent and caring educators and that the education faculty have the capacity to create a culture of evidence, which they use to maintain and enhance program quality.
"Teaching is about helping students learn and grow. Earning CAEP accreditation shows that our faculty are extremely dedicated to caring for students and helping them achieve success,” said Dr. Faye LaDuke-Pelster, chair of the College of Education at BHSU.
