Theatre

Program Overview

Black Hills State University Theatre is a small program with big benefits, where the artistic process is as important as the final product. The program provides a student-centered learning environment focusing on cultivating the collaborative skills, creativity, and professionalism necessary to pursue a career in theatre. The program helps students build a solid foundation from which they are prepared to attend graduate school or enter the job market.

  • You will be prepared to attend graduate school, accept a specialized internship, or enter the job market.

  • Former students are working as actors, directors, designers, technicians, playwrights, teachers, arts administrators, marketing directors, event planners and entrepreneurs.

  • A theatre minor or certificate will enhance the employment perspectives of students in a variety of fields, particularly in Education and Business.

Theatre Society

Theatre Society is a BHSU organization which is open to anyone with an interest in the theatre. We also hold open auditions for our productions and are always looking for people with an interest in the theatre. You DO NOT have to be a theater major to be in our shows! We will find a job for anyone who is willing to work. We also offer backstage work for those who don’t want to be on stage!

Props & Liners

Props and Liners is the oldest student organization at BHSU. Beginning in 1921, this organization is a Theatre Honorary Fraternity. Students must meet set upon requirements within the department before being invited to join the group.

Internship Opportunities

We currently offer internships for the BHSU Summer Stage Program. Students are also encouraged to look outside the department for internship opportunities. We offer assistance and support whenever possible.
