We Strive

To serve as the community center for Black Hills State University. To assist in students' transformation by providing innovative and high-quality programs, which collaboratively engage students in volunteer service, involvement opportunities, leadership development, student employment and self-directed activities. To serve as a high quality meeting, banquet and conference center for the campus and community. To provide a valued and dynamic learning community through services, conveniences, programs and activities which support the BHSU mission. To serve as a unifying and engaging force in the life of the University.

Information & Instructional Technology Services

Recreation Center

Located in the lower level of the Student Union, Club Buzz and the Game Room is a convenient place for students to take a break and enjoy a game of pool or ping-pong, lounge with friends, or take a lunch break and catch up on the latest news or sports. Comfortable couches and seating areas allow for a place to study, watch television, eat a snack, play a board game, or just take a few minutes after your busy day to unwind.

History of the Student Union

The student union building was originally built in 1963. It was expanded in 1968, 1997 and most recently in 2009. In 1998, the building was dedicated and renamed the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union. Dr. David B. Miller, a history professor from 1968 - 1997, received the 1997 Distinguished Faculty Award and was a four-time recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award from the Student Senate.

Due to the multiple services offered in the Student Union, please refer to the specific office/area for hours of operation.

Monday - Thursday 7:00 am to 9:00 pm
Friday 7:00am to 7:00pm
Saturday & Sunday 2:00pm to 6:00pm
