We have many opportunities for professional work in the field. Students interested in athletic training or physical therapy can work daily with staff to care for our athletes. There are also opportunities to teach a variety of fitness classes to the community. Black Hills State University has the largest fitness center in the region and offers students practical experience working with adults and students in exercise programming. For more information regarding internship opportunities contact Craig Triplett in the fitness center.
One of the program’s strength is the rich internship program. Your advisor will spend considerable time with you to find the right internship experience and we have many options across the United States. Former students have interned in various locations such as: Cardiac rehab, Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center, local gyms, weight loss camps, and physical therapy clinics. Many of our former students now serve as internship preceptors.
BHSU Exercise Science majors are encouraged to join the Exercise Science Club. The club is a great way to become involved in campus events, meet fellow Exercise Science students, and have fun. Some of the events that club members participate in include:
Our department also offers free exercise training services that are provided by senior level exercise science students. Interested community members should reach out to Dr. Ashley Pfeiffer at ashley.pfeiffer@bhsu.edu for further information. This program typically runs from January to May and is a great way to jump start your health and fitness journey.
