Ryan Amys

Dr. Ryan Amys is from a rural northern Wisconsin town located miles away from Lake Superior and a stone’s throw from the fly fishing eddies of the Brule River. The passion of the outdoors Dr. Amys gained through childhood led him to Bozeman, Montana, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English at Montana State University, followed by a career as a sports journalist for the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. While covering high school athletic events, Dr. Amys was inspired to change career paths to mentor and educate secondary students. Dr. Amys earned his Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and spent a handful of years as a teacher, activities director, and coach in northeast Montana. This career change led to a sense of moral gratitude that enticed him to continue his studies in education. Dr. Amys returned to Montana State University and spent three years earning his doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction.

Since 2016, Dr. Amys has been an instructor and coordinator for Black Hills State University’s Project SECOND program. Project SECOND is an online graduate program that offers individuals the opportunity to change career paths to teach at the secondary level, similar to the course Dr. Amys has taken. The experience and fulfillment Dr. Amys has gained and received through teaching is being passed on to the candidates of the Black Hills.
