YOUR PATHWAY TO NURSING STARTS HERE

The West River Health Sciences Center is a coordinated effort between Black Hills State University, South Dakota State University, the University of South Dakota, and community organizations, such as the West River Area Health Education Center. Our main goals are:

• Serving our nursing and healthcare workforce in the Black Hills region
• Coordinating efforts between BHSU, SDSU, and USD so that students have a seamless transition in their degree plan, which will save them time and money
• Preparing students for the USD and SDSU nursing programs or helping them explore other healthcare career options
• Enabling students to pursue their entire college degree in the beautiful Black Hills

Vision:
West River Health Sciences Center (WRHSC) strengthens communities in the Black Hills region by providing coordinated nursing and healthcare education.  High-quality professional preparation through partnerships with local healthcare employers and institutions is available for students. Students pursue paths to healthcare careers that meet their individual needs and goals resulting in highly trained nursing and healthcare professionals.

Mission:
WRHSC’s mission is to provide a pipeline into and through the Regental Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs by serving as a one-stop center for students and facilitating a seamless experience in their education.  We will fulfill this mission by:

• increase visibility of healthcare education and career opportunities in the Black Hills region,
• coordinate and develop student support resources,
• partner with local healthcare institutions to identify workforce development opportunities,
• collaborate with regional education institutions to define and develop healthcare education paths for students,
• offer interprofessional education opportunities in support of a stronger healthcare team environment, and
• educate and train a perpetual healthcare workforce for the Black Hills that is reflective of the population and region it serves.
