BHSU Logo Featured in National Design Publication

The new visual identity for Black Hills State University (BHSU) is one of 3,000 logos to appear in LogoLounge Book 13, a bestselling series featuring the latest and greatest in identity design from accomplished designers around the world. Launched in 2002, LogoLounge is a research and networking tool for graphic designers who create corporate identities or logos. In 2006, LogoLounge published its first book, LogoLounge Book 1. LogoLounge 13 features logos curated from more than 36,000 submissions by an expert panel of the most revered names in the design industry.

In 2020, BHSU enlisted Sioux Falls-based advertising agency Fresh Produce to lead the rebranding effort. The goal was to replace a 60-year-old logo with a new identity that captured the values, energy, and momentum at BHSU. Utilizing campus-wide insights, the agency created the versatile "BH" symbol that is featured in the LogoLounge publication. The new identity debuted in March 2021.

"It’s a distinctive graphic that is unmistakably Black Hills State University. It depicts the values of BHSU and the origins of these values," said BHSU President Laurie Nichols. "It is an honor to have BHSU’s logo featured in an international industry magazine and I thank the Fresh Produce staff for their innovation and quality work to get us there."

LogoLounge Book 13 was published in August of 2022. The hardcover book is available for purchase at logolounge.com/books. In addition to logos, the book features case studies from respected designers.
